Who and Why
Advancing Parenting was founded in 2012 by David Dooley, a resident of Camarillo, CA.
Our activities are based on four truths.
1. The quality of any community has much to do with the quality of the parenting happening in the homes within the community.
2. Generally speaking, children raised by parents who engage in best parenting behaviors and practices become responsible, caring, competent citizens.
3. Similarly, children exposed to unsupportive and abusive parenting often behave in ways that harm themselves and others.
4. Parenting behaviors and practices, both supportive and harmful, are frequently passed from one generation to the next.
A New Kind of Parenting Education
Advancing Parenting believes there has a been a general decline in the quality of parenting and it's having a devastating impact on children, families, and communities. Parenting education is the key to reversing this decline. Sadly, parenting education as it exists today is mostly reactive and focuses on individual families. Advancing Parenting is pioneering a new kind of parenting education that is proactive and specifically designed to improve the overall quality of parenting. Our bumper stickers teach parenting behaviors and practices generally recognized as supporting the healthy development of children, and discourage parenting behaviors and practices generally recognized as disrupting the healthy development of children.
Everyone, Everywhere, All the Time
Advancing Parenting’s approach, which we call proactive, participatory, passive, public parenting education is unique and innovative. Traditional parenting education, which requires planning, time, and effort focuses on select parents and takes place in a classroom. Proactive, participatory, passive, public parenting education requires neither planning, time, nor effort and reaches everyone everywhere. Grandparents, mature parents, young parents, soon-to-be parents, teen parents, and school age children all read our parenting tips bumper stickers and learn about supportive parenting.
Primary Prevention
Primary prevention is a medical term that describes powerful measures that prevent rather than treat illness, e.g. immunization, regular exercise, proper nutrition, not smoking. Proactive, participatory, passive, public parenting education is primary prevention that will break the cycle of harmful parenting and prevent its damaging effects.

Advancing Parenting...we take parenting education off bookshelves and put it in public where it belongs.
